Backing-Up Emails

April 30, 2008

Comment: I would of liked a way to back-up my webmail emails to an alternate location since my inbox frequently became full. IT provided no viable options for this request.

Assuming that you’re talking about SIAST email, the library’s best suggestion is to set up a Gmail/Hotmail/other off-campus email account. Then you can forward any emails you want to archive to this account and have them for safe keeping. Unfortunately, you can’t automatically forward all emails to another account, but you can do this yourself. It’s not the best of solutions, but it might work for you!

Money on Printing Accounts

April 9, 2008

Comment: Give new students 50¢ on their printing account for free.

Thanks for the suggestion!

In the past, we gave students a 50¢ credit on their printing accounts because we got a new printing service called Papercut. This was done because Papercut was new and we wanted to introduce students to it. This was a one time initiative from the library.  That being said, we feel that students benefit from it and we will be discussing the issue at an upcoming meeting.

Drink Machines at Wascana

April 9, 2008

Comment: There needs to be Pepsi and Coca-Cola machines available in the library, because I don’t drink coffee. There needs to be juice too.

Although the library doesn’t have drink machine inside of its walls, there is a machine right across from the Commissionaire’s desk – this way you can get in a little stretch break whenever you need a drink!

Faxing and Mailboxes at Wascana

April 7, 2008

Comment: Can the library buy a fax machine that students could use; we are willing to pay to send a fax (10cents/page)?

The University of Regina has a mailbox outside of their library, could Canada Post do that here at SIAST. There is no close mailbox to SIAST. It sure would be handy for students.

Thanks for your questions!

The library has thought about getting a fax machine in the past, however it was put on hold because SIAST recently underwent a revamping of the phone system. Now that the upgrades to the phone system are complete we will be reviewing the possibility of getting a fax machine for students.

In regard to the mailbox, SIAST has an internal mail system for staff which is why there isn’t a Canada Post mailbox, however, students can drop off mail to the Printing Office (just make sure you have the proper postage on it) and stamps can be bought at the bookstore.

Library Fines

April 2, 2008

Comment: Lower the fines, please! Poor student, remember?

Fines are set to encourage staff and students to return library materials on time so items are available to other users. To avoid fines, you can renew your items by contacting the library in person, by phone, or by email.

You can also renew the items yourself through the library’s catalogue. This must be done before the items are due.

To do this:

  1. go to: http://library.siast.sk.ca
  2. click on “My Account” (near top of screen), you’ll see the option to “Renew Items”
  3. log in with your SIAST ID number
