Kelsey Quiet Room

December 3, 2009

Comment: Quiet room for individual study is pointless when you can hear every word of the discussion of the group next door.

We need to know what works for you in our library and what doesn’t.  So thanks for letting us know about this problem.  To address this problem, we will soon make the old test centre our quiet study room.    This will be a bigger room and it should be quiet too!

Coffee at Kelsey

December 3, 2009

Comment: This one Mon. I came to school at 7:30 a.m.  When I went to leave for my class the coffee wasn’t made.  I was hoping to fill up my travel mug  )-: .  Maybe the first ppl here should make it so that we can enjoy it all day.  I love free coffee Mondays!

We’re glad you enjoy our coffee Monday mornings!  A best attempt is made to make coffee shortly after opening on Mondays.  We don’t know what was causing the delay you mentioned but we are working at minimizing future delays.

Comment about Kelsey Library

March 18, 2009

Comment from a Kelsey Instructor: “The library is a wonderful resource for me and I can’t say enough good about the staff, holdings, and hours. I have had great experiences over many years with both my in person and virtual visits. My students appear to be equally pleased. I do find the fines a pain, as the desk will not take a credit or debit card, and I have to come over to the main building with the correct change. Otherwise, thanks for everything you do for me and my students.”

Thank you for your kind words! We’re glad we can help! Also, SIAST Libraries is currently reviewing the fine payments so stay tuned for some possible changes.

Alcohol at Kelsey Campus

December 1, 2008

Comment from a Kelsey Student: I think that having wet Wednesdays and thirsty Thursdays at the Kelsey Campus is a very bad idea. Because really they are promoting drinking and driving and drinking in the work place. I am in the Welding course and the first thing the teachers taught us was that SAFETY COMES FIRST and now they are lettings students drink at school. In my class yesterday there was 5 intoxicated students, that is not safe at all. I think it is terrible, i am not getting injured or killed because the person i am working with is drunk. i think it is a terrible idea and i wan TOTALLY AGAINST IT.

Hello, and thanks for your response.  The library doesn’t have any involvement with these events on campus, but we have forwarded your concerns to Warren White (the Welding Program Head) and also to the President of the Kelsey Student Association.

Thanks to Theressa and Search Alerts!

July 16, 2008

Comment from a Kelsey Instructor: I want to thank Theressa for assisting me with Search Alerts, which is a very handy library tool for keeping a researcher up to date with the latest articles and journals related to a specific discipline (for example: Concept Mapping). This morning I received an excellent article on Concept Mapping written in 2007. Thanks to Search Alerts, this article was sent to me this moring. Thanks to Theressa.

Comment to the Kelsey Library Staff

May 30, 2008

Comment: To the Kelsey Library Staff – thanks for assisting me with my library information needs.  I have found the audiovisual staff,  library staff as well as the librarians to be exceptionally helpful with my learning and teaching needs. The library book mark was a good idea and I shall keep one handy at my desk.

Study Room Time Limits at Kelsey

March 4, 2008

Comment: “Request for time limits for study rooms.”

We are sympathetic to your concerns and will take them under advisement. There are many things to consider when making decisions of this nature. Although the study rooms can be fully booked at peak times such as lunch breaks or exam periods, they are not as heavily used at other times and we are wary of placing any restrictions on who can use them and for how long. Also, please be aware that if the student who has booked the study room does not claim it in the first ten minutes of their booking, the room is open for other students. Thank you for your comments.
